Here are some questions I'm asked every day... and the answers I chant in my sleep!

What is copywriting anyway?
Well let's get the old confusion out of the way first. I'm a 'copywriter', not a 'copyrighter' - in other words, I know close to nothing about intellectual property!

I leave copyright issues to professional IP Attorneys - people who can protect your words and pictures in exactly the way that I can't. If you need more on that, talk to my favourite trademark attorneys Coulson & Associates.

Go on, they're lovely:)

OK, so what does a Copywriter do?
Yeah, I was just getting to that! Copywriters produce promotional text for advertising media. It could be a brochure for a day trip to Mars or the label on a tin of soup. For either task, the job is to get you excited.

It's harder with soup, but that's my problem...

Why do I need a Copywriter?
Now that's a damn good question! You know more about your business than I do, so why ask me to promote it?

The answer is I'm not writing about your business - I'm writing about your customers.  The most effective sales copy finds empathy with the customer by addressing their dilemmas, their hang-ups and aspirations.  As your copywriter, it's my job to focus on that problem, then finally swoop in with the solution (and that's you).

Of course, I still need to get to know your business inside out...but everything I do will lead with the customer's perspective.

How will my project be managed?
I'll start with a fact-find.  I want to know everything your customers know and everything you want them to.  Then once I've got to grips with all that - and your objectives of course - I'll produce a creative brief outlining the task and delivery dates.

Once we're up and running, I'll liaise with you throughout the creative process, tying in with other agencies or staff as you see fit.  Then I'll keep an eye on performance and review with you after a few weeks or months.

I've written something already. Can you rewrite it?
Yep. I'll read through your work and make some recommendations, which could be a simple edit, a bit of a rewrite or a tear-it-down-and-start-again-from-scratch.

What about confidentiality?
My terms include a non-disclosure clause, so yes, I guarantee not to divulge any business-sensitive info that you share with me.  If you need my work to be anonymous, I'll even keep you off my client list - but if you're happy to associate your business with EarthMonkey, I'll spread your name far and wide as I showcase my work to prospective clients.

Can you offer a design service?
Not as such. But I do work with a clutch of designers who specialise in print and web media. So when you work with me on any project, I can make sure you get an end-to-end service.

Can you manage my whole project?
I do manage the odd project for extra special clients - but only if I'm the right person to do it! Other times, I'll call in one of my marketing buddies who'll juggle all and sundry while I sit in the corner and scribble.

Wow, it all sounds fab, what should I do now?
Call 0845 643 6261 and schedule a free 15-minute consultation. I may not be free when you pick up the phone, but unless I'm chilling on some tropical island I guarantee that we'll speak no later than the next working day.

Talk to you soon...
