People have been announcing the death of direct mail for years! But the right mailer to the right audience (at the right time) is still the best 'interruption' tactic. It's just harder to ignore something physical.
Here's a selection of letters & mailers I've written

IT
An intro letter from an IT Consultant: first in a three-part
contact sequence, followed by a DVD mailer and postcard.
Project included:
Devising campaign, sales copy, project management.
SportStars
The final step in a three-part sequence, mailed in the run-up to
Easter, promoting a network of sports-themed holiday clubs.
Project included:
Market segmentation, sales copy, A/B Split testing,
reporting.
VK Direct
A follow-up mailer, selling a vacuum cleaner that gets rid of
pesky dustmites. Designed by Spring Creative.
Project included:
Concept, sales copy, design liaison, niche variants, market
testing.
